My first hurricane! And let me tell you now, my last! Not that we had it bad or anything .... it's just why take any chances when you don't have to, KWIM? We decided to ride out the storm with John and Joy for a variety of reasons .... we live in an older neighborhood with crazy powerlines; we have trees everywhere .... big trees; and they have a generator. Gavin and Joey had a lot of fun hanging out with Ally and Natalie ... it's amazing that they slept through the night (for the most part) like it was any other night.
We lost power there around 10:00 PM so I think we were one of the first. I can't believe my IL's never lost power. Lucky ducks. With the generator, we were able to watch TV and have a fan running so it wasn't that bad. Just the unknown was the scary part .... waiting for something to happen that, thankfully, never did. We were back home by noon the next day with power .... it had gone off but wasn't even off long enough for our food to suffer. On the up side, our yard got a good cleaning and George got a few days off from work (they lost water at the restaurant so they closed).
We will definitely take a little road trip when the next Ike or stronger hurricane comes our way ... no doubt about it!
