bye bye Bedrail
When we returned from our weekend in Austin, I didn't put Joey's bedrail back on his bed. It's been over a week and he has yet to fall off his bed (knock on wood). Of course, I'm still putting his baby bed mattress on the floor next to him! = ) Ahhhhh, in no time he'll be driving!

The Bible for Dummies
Well, that's not what it's actually called but it should be! My new Bible is dummy-proof which is a good thing as I'm sort of a dummy when it comes to the Bible. The weekly sermons at my church have been following the book of Genesis since the beginning of the year. I've been learning so much and it's actually put a fire in my belly to learn more.
Not only did I settle on a study Bible but I found a fantastic life application study Bible that sets up each chapter with who authored it, who the audience is, timing, and a brief summary of the chapter. It also has a bio of each major player. Super cool! And, here's what I love, it ties all the lessons of the Bible to today and how we can apply them to everyday life.
So, my journey begins ...

Sunny Days Ahead!
I remember when one of my mommy friends planned on getting in line in the wee hours of the morning to register her son in preschool. I thought she was nuts. Funny enough, I just did the same thing for my boys .... for a one week summer camp! LOL! Sunny Days is one of the few camps that accepts two year olds and I really want Gavin and Joey to attend the same camp.
I met a fellow mommy just before 5 AM and we were numbers two and three in line. As silly as I felt, I am so glad I did it .... after enrolling Joey, there were only 4 spots left in his group and after enrolling Gavin, there were 5 spots. Considering my friend got one of the two year old spots and a woman a few spaces behind us had twin two year olds to enroll, I'm glad I didn't push the snooze button. Believe me, I was so very tempted!
Now I'm just praying it's a good experience for them!

My New Wheels!
It's official! I am a mini-van mama! And, get this, I'm happy about it! Woo Hoo! Instead of replacing George's Camry with another car for him, he got the Durango and I got a van! It's been a little over a week and I am officially in love with my Sienna! Seriously, I just don't get why there are so many haters!
I had the privilege to witness my father-in-law in action at the dealership. Kamal is my haggling hero! I had absolutely no idea you could haggle over the interest rate .... learn something new every day!

A Conversation to Remember!
The boys and I went to church this morning. Something I'm so proud to say I've done each and every Sunday for several months now. We were driving home and I was asking the boys about Sunday School .... what they learned, did, read, sang, etc. Gavin then asked me what I did and the conversation went like this ....
Me: Well, we read a little from the Bible and I talked to God.
Gavin: Where is he?
Me: Do you see the clouds up in the sky? He is way up behind the clouds in Heaven.
... long pause, he is thinking about this ...
Gavin: I don't want to talk to him.
Me: Why not?
Gavin: I don't want to go up there.
Me: Honey, you don't have to go up there. You can talk to God right here and he will hear you because he's also in your heart.
... another pause, he's really thinking about this ...
Me: When you love God, you let him in your heart and he's with you always.
Gavin: Is God in your heart Mommy?
Me: He is baby. Is he in your heart?
Gavin: No.
Mommy: Do you love God?
Gavin: Yes.
Mommy: Then he is in your heart and he is always with you.
OMG, my heart burst. Thankfully, I think I handled that pretty well! Sadly though, a toddler talk about God is about all I can handle right now. I've got so much to learn ...
When we got home, Gavin asked his daddy if God was in his heart and went on to tell him that he loves God and he is in his heart .... my sweet boy!

Happy Birthday Nana

Today is Mom's 79th birthday. 79. Wow. The number itself seems really old (sorry Mom!) and it really doesn't agree with my mother at all. Most days, she runs circles around me. It's actually a little embarrassing! The boys adore her and it's such a blessing to have her here in Houston with us.
We kept busy most of the day .... shopping, taking the boys to the park after school, and winding down the day with dinner at Fleming's. Mom was so funny .... she ate all of her appetizer, took one bite of her dinner and asked for a 'to go' box .... said she needed to save room for dessert. LOL! At least she has her priorities straight .... and a yummy lunch for tomorrow!
Happy Birthday Nana!

Oooops, I did it again!
Over two months have gone by since my last post. They haven't just gone by, they've flown by! Things have been so busy for our family. In February and March, George worked non-stop to complete his training and open the restaurant while I held down the fort. There aren't any words to express just how proud I am of him. The restaurant is simply AMAZING ... gorgeous from top to bottom. And the food is phenomenal. I love the menu! Fleming's has the traditional steakhouse items but also has unique items that definitely set it apart from the competition. My early favorites .... Lobster Tempura (YUM!), mac & cheese (OMG ... so good!), and the Lobster en Fuego (BTW, en fuego means on fire so be careful!).
We are very anxious for things to get a little bit back to normal though. I completely expected it to be tough on George. I mean he is the one out busting his bootie every day (and for a long stretch is was every day literally). I have to admit I was caught off guard by how hard it's been on the boys and me. Both Gavin and Joey miss their daddy tons. Gavin REALLY misses his daddy though. REALLY MISSES HIM! It's been heartbreaking for us both to watch Gavin deal with his daddy's hours. And it definitely doesn't help that Gavin inherited the drama gene in the family! = ) And as far as I go .... I didn't realize / appreciate how much George did around here until he stopped doing it! He loves to give me crap for that too!
Time to play catch up for the past two months ....
